In short: it depends.
1. Do you have time?
Rule of thumb: if you have been “meaning to” write that resume for a week or more, unsuccessfully; you do not have time.
2. Are you a skilled writer?
Writing requires eloquence, efficiency, and the ability to extract only key points and deliver in a succinct manner. Your resume should be one page – no exceptions.
3. What are your expectations?
Paying a resume writer will not get you another $50K – that is not the purpose of a resume. A resume is a door opener – the right one will result in more opportunities to display your skills, which equals more interest and more interviews.
4. Can you afford to pay someone?
A suitable write-up will cost anywhere from $100 to $500.
5. How much interest is your current resume receiving?
If you are not seeing the response you deserve, perhaps it is time to consult an expert.
WARNING: never pay a resume writer unskilled in writing for your industry. Hiring Managers will expect you and your resume to speak their language, subtle buzzwords and overall verbiage will indicate how well suited you are for the position. Do not attempt to fake it or ask another to fake it on your behalf – industry experts will see right through you.
